More about Calico
Calico is a Labrador/Golden Retriever mix. She is “coated,” meaning that she has the long, wavy fur of a Golden. However, you can see her Lab heritage in the shorter fur on her back. Although she was the second largest female in her litter, she is small for a Golden, weighing only 45 pounds. She was born in March, and her sister, Cello, is also a member of Mid-Peninsula Puppy Guides. Cello is almost the same size as Calico, but she looks more like a Lab; both dogs have very soft fur.
When Calico wakes up in the morning, she spends a long time stretching and yawning before she’s ready to start the day. She is usually pretty lazy, but she gets excited before walks or mealtime. Her favorite game is food-induced recall, where she runs back and forth between her two raisers, Jamie and Bill, getting treats each time she comes when called. When she comes home from a walk in the rain, she shakes herself dry and then rushes around the house in excitement, happy to be home. In the evening, she lays her head on Bill’s leg and falls asleep dreaming of Nylabones.
